The Perfect Push Up

Mike's Perfect Push Up Blog: For years, I have been using stationary push-up bars - and I've been happy with them. But...just when you thought (or didn't think at all) that a product was perfect, someone comes along and improves it. And... WoW - what an improvement to my at-home strength-training regime!

Here's what I do: in addition to some basic Yoga moves every morning (see the Yoga Section), I will typically add 10 push-ups and 30 curls with my dumbbells. The Perfect Pushup is a major improvement because the swiveling action of the handles enable you to work otherwise unreachable muscles.

Brian's Perfect Push Up Blog: I bought the Perfect Push Up about 3 weeks ago and have been using it about once a week. My workout routine has a great deal of variety to it and usually consists of hitting the gym, running and surfing, each one day a week.

I was looking for something that I could throw in my workout bag that would target my upper body on my running days, and let me tell you, this was it.Not only did this product deliver the upper body workout I was looking for, it far surpassed my expectations. I think it has something to do with the rotation of the device that not only allows you to get a great chest work out, but it’s also really popped out my triceps and strengthened the rear part of my shoulders. I’ve never had big arms and for the first time in my life I have triceps that looks proportional to my body. (Where was this when I was in high school )

Like I said, I’ve only been using it once a week for three weeks so I can only imagine what I would look like if I did it every other day as the product suggests.

So I totally recommend this to anyone looking for some upper body strength and definition. And if you’re like me, and aren’t a gym rat, it’s the perfect thing to throw in your bag with a jump rope, and you’ve got all you need for a workout on the go.

National Bike Registry

We chip our pets, lojack our cars, so why not take some extra steps to register our bikes. According to FBI statistics, bicycle theft is on the rise -and with increased gas prices at the pump, there are a lot more bikes on the road. People are even getting back to using a bike as means of work transportation! Personally, I think it's one of the positive things to arise from soaring gas prices.

According to the statistics, over 1.5 million bicycles are stolen each year. College campuses have an especially high bicycle theft rate. While police recover almost 50% of stolen bikes, most are never returned because they are not registered. As a result, the unidentified bikes are sent to auction. With NBR, you increase the chance of getting our bicycle returned. In the event that your bike is stolen but not recovered for 6 months, NBR will cover the cost of registering your next bike.

NBR has 3 levels of registration.

  • $10 for 10 years per bike
  • $25 for 30 years (per bike) transferable
  • $25 family plan: 5 bikes covered for 10 years each

Protect your investment! Register your bike today by clicking the image above.

My Weight Loss Coach for Nintendo DS with Pedometer

Some cynics have stated that video game manufacturers and developers are only now making fitness games and video game software because of the bad press they've been getting about adding to the childhood obesity epidemic. While I agree that excessive video game playing is a contributing factor to childhood obesity, I think fitness video games are the most exciting health & fitness tools available today.

With My Weight Loss Coach, you take small steps toward health & fitness --and if you've been reading our blogs here, you already know that "Small Steps" and "Setting Realistic Goals" is the core FitMotive message.

Valeo Speed Jump Rope

Jumping rope has been around for so long -that it's often forgotten as one of the most rigorous and effective exercises. I remember the first time I got serious about jumping rope every day. I started with 5 minutes and eventually increased to 30 minutes a day. At that time I wanted to trim down to 150 from 158 - and with jumping rope, I did it in less than 2 weeks! Try it - you'll be surprised.

Less than $6 on Amazon - so there's no excuse. Click he image above to purchase.

Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack

I own several different waist packs in various sizes. The Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack is what I consider a larger waist pack: it's roomy enough to fit all the essentials, like: sunblock, snacks, lunch, wallet, cell phone, a small first aid kit and more. It also holds 2 large 32oz water bottles (which are essential).

Packs are priced according to color (which, for the record, I've always found a little shady because I'm not convinced that one color costs more to manufacture than another -so at some point, maybe someone will enlighten me). Regardless, don't let the whole color thing deter you from the Mountainsmith Tour Pack because it's rugged, durable and has all the space you need for day hiking (even in the city).

Priced from $64 to $70 on Amazon - click image above to purchase.

Airzone 38-inch Mini Band Trampoline

The Airzone 38-inch Mini Band Trampoline is a perfect entry level mini-trampoline, as it's rated well on Amazon and the price is under $40. Most trampoline users debate the issue of bands vs. springs. Although I've never have a spring or band break, I do keep a close eye on my trampoline for signs of deterioration.

It's also worth mentioning that jumping on a trampoline is easier than it looks. If done regularly and with caution - you'll get an amazing workout. Oh, I don't recommend using your trampoline in an apartment building or on the 2nd floor of your house.

Tamrac Adventure 9 Photo-Computer Backpack

Have you been on a quest for the perfect camera backpack? Well, the bad news is - it probably doesn't exist. However, after trying and owning several camera backpacks, I have settled on the Tamrac Adventure 9 Photo/Camera Backpack.

In the early days of my career as a pro-photographer, I lugged my classic Domke bag on hikes. With a spare camera, motor drives, film, batteries, lenses and more stuffed into the bag, you can guess that after a short mile, my back was killing me. I'm glad those days are long gone.

The Tamrac Adventure 9 Photo/Computer Backpack has a main customizable camera compartment. The main camera equipment area holds a camera with a lens and its motor drive on! This was a big deal for me because I always shoot with a motor drive. In addition, I carry a flash, three additional lenses, cables, extra memory cards, batteries, filters and more. The laptop computer compartment is snug and amply padded -and has more than enough room -even for larger models.

Some additional benefits of the Tamrac Adventure 9 Backpack is that it will easily fit in an overhead compartment!
