It's my intention though this particular blog, to get people thinking about the possibility that we each have the power to make something good come from $5.00+ gallon gasoline. For years, my business parter and I, have been doing our Saturday morning ritual: gym, breakfast and then coffee. Here are the details of our former ritual: Drive 1.7 miles East to the gym Park for $1.50 Workout Drive West 2.9 miles to our favorite diner Park and feed the meeter for $1.00 Eat 2 for $20.22 Drive West 1.3 miles to the coffee shop. Park and feed the meeter $1.50 Buy coffee for $3.33 Drive East 2.2 miles back to our neighborhood Summary: Total city miles traveled = 8.1 miles = half a tank =$2.50 Parking: $4.00 Breakfast & Coffee: $23.55 Because of the unbridled gas prices, we're walking now: West to breakfast, then to coffee and East back home. The winners (us): Financial benefits: An extra $6.50 per week; $338.00 per year. Health Benefits: 4.8 mile walk - out in the sunshine and fresh Los Angeles air. The losers (them): Big oil company loss: ($2.50) per week; ($130 per year) - and that's at $4.69 per gallon. Parking revenue loss (city): ($2.50) per week; ($130. per year) Private parking lot loss: ($1.50) per week ($78 per year) Now I know this might not seem like a lot of money - but look at it this way: a savings of $338. per year, is half of a Bush stimulus check and/or it's like having one more child to claim! So, it's good bye tires - hello feet: it's just like being a car-less teenager again! Copyright © 2008 FitMotive.com All Rights Reserved
